Census of Surveys presents summary information from the Federal Government of the United States website, Reginfo.gov. This Tutorial will help walk you through this website so that you can learn more detailed information about an individual survey.
Main Page
- Go to Website, Reginfo.gov.
- There are six choices from the main menu bar.
- Hover over the title Information Collection Review.
- Select Search from the Information Collection Review dropdown menu.
- Census of Surveys information comes from filtering the ICR Status (Active) and ICRs That (Employ statistical methods).
Search Page
- The Search page allows you (the user) to filter the Information Collection Review database to a single entry or to a group of entries. OMB provides an explanation about each filter that is not self-explanatory.
- The following are a list of filters that may be of interest: (Agency, Sub Agency), ICR Status, ICRs That, Obligation to Respond, Affected Public, and (Line of Business, Subfunction).
Search Result Page
- The Search Result page contains a lot of useful information.
- The heading PRA Search Criteria describes the filter(s) applied to your initial search.
- If there are more than 1,000 Number of Records Found, then you will be asked to refine your search result on the Search page.
- Under the OMB Control No heading found in the first column of your search result,
you can click the Information Collection OMB Control No number which will allow you
to see the entire history of that Information Collection Request Package.
- Under the Title heading found in the third column of your Search Results page you can click the Information Collection Title name which takes you to the Information Collection Request Package page.
Information Collection Request Package Page
- The Information Collection Request Package page initially presents only the Brief and OIRA Conclusion. This information comes from form OMB 83-I.
- At the top of the page there is a box that allows you to access more information.
- Choosing All, the rest of the information for this specific Information Collection Request Package will be displayed.
- The last line in this box contains two links to two important set of documents: View Information Collection (IC) List and View Supporting Statement and Other Documents.
- Clicking View Information Collection (IC) List will take you to a webpage that presents all the forms used to collect this information.
- Clicking View Supporting Statement and Other Documents will take you to a webpage that
presents two types of supporting statements, supporting documents for the Information
Collection, and public comments on the Information Collection.
- Supporting Statement A justifies the need for the Information Collection. Supporting Statement B explains the statistical method used in collecting this information.
